After more than two years of pressure from campaigners in Moreton, the Post Office has confirmed that Saughall Bridge Post Office will re-open on 8 August.
The branch was closed in April 2022 and is one of three in Wirral which were closed by the Post Office.
So far, the Post office has refused to re-open branches in Upton and Wallasey Village, in spite of more than 1,000 people supporting the campaign, and the backing of Wirral Council.
Councillor Vida Wilson (Moreton West & Saughall Massie) said: “From the day we were first elected, this is one of the top issues raised with Councillors Colin Baldwin, Gary Bennett and me. We have been in regular contact with the Post Office since then, highlighting the issues this was causing to residents and the need for it to re-open.
“Post Offices are a vital part of many high streets and Saughall Bridge is ideally placed to serve that part of the Borough.
“We all saw the effect of the mass branch closures before 2010 and so we were determined to keep up the pressure on the Post Office to re-open Saughall Bridge.
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the new Postmaster to our community.
“Thank you to everyone who has backed our campaign, and to the Wirral Globe for reporting it!”
Karl Haddon, Network Lead for the Post Office, added:
The service will be operating from the same premises at 388 Hoylake Road by a new Postmaster, offering a range of Post Office products and services. I know that the local community will join me in welcoming this good news and hope that our customers will continue to use this service.
