Following the arrival travellers at the Dips in Wallasey, the Council has confirmed they are seeking a court order for their removal.
A dozen vehicles arrived on Wednesday, parking on the Dips and near to homes in Smugglers Way.
Councillor Ian Lewis (Conservative, Wallasey Ward) said: “Following calls from residents yesterday, Councillor Lesley Rennie and I spoke with the Council’s Chief Executive to request action to have the travellers moved.
“I can fully understand the frustration of residents. First we have the nuisance and obstruction caused by West Wallasey Van Hire. Now we have yet another traveller encampment.
“Since 2021, eight previous illegal encampments have cost the taxpayer more than £4,000 in legal fees alone.
"I’m hopeful we can obtain a possession order from the courts today but the action carries a cost to the Borough, not only in legal fees but also cleaning up the Dips afterwards.”
While the law requires landowners (in this case, the Council) to seek a possession order on each occasion, the time it takes has been reduced, following the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.
