Families in Wirral are set to benefit from a further £6m as part of the national Household Support Fund.

Wirral Council will receive the cash, announced today, and means the total support is now £15 million for those families most affected by the global rise in prices.

Commenting, Cllr. Kathy Hodson, Chair of Wirral’s Children, Young People and Education Committee, said: “Many families in Wirral are struggling to make ends meet in the face of rising prices.

"We need to make sure every penny of this latest cash, through the Household Support Fund, gets to the most vulnerable families and those who are really struggling to make ends meet. One of the best ways to do that is not via the council, but via some of the many groups, including charities and voluntary groups, who know their communities best.”

And, following the decision to maintain the Borough’s three play schemes, Cllr. Hodson said: “Now that the future of the schemes at Leasowe Adventure Playground ('the Addy'); Gautby and Beechwood has been secured, I’ve asked council officers to see if they too can share in this extra cash, again making sure that those who are most in need are helped.”

“This fund is a lifeline for local residents, and this extra cash will ensure this vital support is available for families who are struggling for another year.”

Mims Davies, Minister for Social Mobility, Youth and Progression, added: “The Household Support Fund has already helped many people across England through these challenging times and I am pleased it will continue to do so for another full year.

“This is just one part of our extensive and targeted £26 billion support package, which includes payments of £900 for millions of people on benefits and additional support for disabled people and pensioners, whilst every household will continue to save money thanks to our Energy Price Guarantee.”
