Post Office slammed for Grove Road closure

Re-open Grove Road Post Office

The scandal-hit Post Office has received further criticism following their announcement they will be closing their branch in Wallasey Village this week.

On December 8th, local councillors Lesley Rennie and Ian Lewis contacted the Head Office of the Post Office, following signs advertising the premises to let, even though the Post Office was still open and trading.

A week later, on December 15th, Post Office management assured the councillors that the branch would not be closing. They also gave a commitment to update residents should circumstances change.

Yet, less than four weeks later, on 15 January, the Post Office has now advised Councillors that the branch will be closing the next day, 16 January.

Councillor Lesley Rennie said:

Just when you thought the tactics of the Post Office couldn’t get any lower, we now find that this branch was closing all along. Their previous assurances and commitments have proved worthless and we feel very angry that Wallasey Village has been deceived by the Post Office.

Wallasey Village has a large population of older residents, for the Post Office to suggest they should take a hike to other parts of the Borough is offensive and a failure of their public duty.  You would think with everything we have all learned about their appalling conduct, they would be more careful when making such important decisions now.

Instead, over the last five years, we have seen this branch mismanaged by the Post Office. It closed in November 2018, but reopened three months later. It closed again in March 2021 but reopened in February 2021. So it’s hardly any wonder that revenue has been so erratic – but the only people responsible for this is the Post Office.

Now, a petition has been launched urging the Post Office to rethink its plans.

Councillor Ian Lewis added:

Is the senior management at the Post Office tone deaf to public opinion or do they just not care? They’ve broken their promise to keep Grove Road open and they’ve broken their promise to consult with the community.

It seems their disgraceful business practices, revealed most recently in the ITV drama, are not limited to their corrupt Horizon system.
