Wirral Council has agreed the sale of the flood plain at Pasture Road/Ditton Lane to national housebuilder Persimmon Homes (NW) Limited.
The land is identified as part of the 'flood plain' between Moreton and Leasowe and is frequently flooded during periods of heavy rain.
It is located in the Leasowe & Moreton East Ward and is on the boundary with Moreton West & Saughall Massie Ward.
The Council's own 'Strategic Flood Risk Assessment' confirms the importance of this site in alleviating flooding in nearby homes, stating “this site should not be developed for residential use. Ideally, this site would remain for less vulnerable uses with appropriate resilience measures put in place or be used as a multifunctional greenspace for flood storage, amenity use and to provide environmental/ecological benefits”.
The site is also a wildlife haven and the work by the Friends of Pasture Marsh has shown the wide range of wildlife, including migrating birds, which use the site. Their petition against the sale has the support of 5,725 people
Requests by Councillor Vida Wilson to the Labour Leader of the Council to halt the sale were refused.
All three Councillors in Moreton West & Saughall Massie Ward oppose the building of houses of this council-owned land and the adjacent site which is being sold by Vyner Estates Ltd.
