Should we keep, or end, the limit on benefit payouts? That's the question we're asking 2,400 residents in Moreton, Wallasey and Saughall Massie this month. Thank you to everyone who has replied, so far.
It follows the announcement by Nigel Farage that Reform want to scrap the limit on how much is paid out to households claiming Universal Credit.
This ‘two-child cap’, which was introduced in 2017, restricts child tax credit and universal credit to the first two children in most households. It doesn’t affect Child Benefit.
After all, if parents who are working decide to have more children, they don’t automatically get a pay rise from their employer, do they?
In a recent opinion poll, 60% of people wanted the cap to be kept.
A massive 84% of Reform supporters also support it.
Removing the cap could mean that more large families would be encouraged to try and gain legal or illegal entry into the U.K.
Especially as it’s been revealed that the cost of Universal Credit paid to migrants from outside Britain has already hit £941m a MONTH.
Speaking later, respected MP, Rupert Lowe, who was elected last year as a Reform MP, said: "Reform is wrong to call for the end of the two child benefit cap - a lazy policy, which fattens an already vastly bloated welfare state. Start with tax breaks for parents. Make childcare affordable. Let people keep more of what they earn. Reward work over dependency."
Adding:
"Hardworking parents, already taxed up to their neck, should not have to further subsidise parents who don’t work."
