Thanks to everyone who has been in touch with us, following news that the land at the top of Pasture Road has been put up for sale.

All of the site is in the Leasowe & Moreton East Ward - the boundary between the two wards is the middle of Pasture Road.

We asked for an update from the Council and met with the Council's Assistant Director for Assets.

Here's what we know:

  • Part of the site (next to Ditton Lane) is owned by the Council and was put up for sale, even though the agents recognised a major issue is flooding: https://hive.agencypilot.com/.../2868298_3h55i134re3d7f6l...
  • The Ditton Local Nature Reserve (on the other side of Ditton Lane) is NOT affected by the proposed sale. The Nature Reserve WAS given protection in the Council's Local Plan (designated as Local Green Space, at the request of a former councillor for that area).
  • The land on the corner of Leasowe Road and Pasture Road is owned by Vyner Estates and, seeing the Council put land up for sale, they decided to do the same, using the same agents so as to be able to market the whole site as one deal.
  • While the Council cannot stop the sale of the land owned by Vyner, the Planning Committee will have the say over any planning application that proposes to develop the land.

Conservative Councillors will be supporting residents in opposing the development of this land - much of it is a wildlife haven and ALL of it is on the flood plain.

We cannot keep building on flood land and then wonder why the Birket and Arrowe Brook flood more frequently.
