NEW! petition to stop more parking charges

Free Parking

As at 16 June: 1,910 signatures so far

The Town Hall has, for years, tried to impose more parking charges in Wirral. It's easy money. And it fits with the war being waged on the motorist by some political groups and lobbyists.

But with small businesses and shops closing at record levels and many people feeling the pinch, the plans could not come at a worse time.

25 sites were going to have charges introduced - including three in Moreton (Garden Lane, Holt Avenue and Pasture Road) and three in Wallasey (Kings Parade, Derby Pool and Gun Site).

That's why the five local Conservative councillors in this constituency (Colin, Gary and Vida in Moreton & Saughall Massie; Ian and Lesley in Wallasey) are asking for your support, one more time.

Regardless of which Party you want in Government, or which local councillors you think do a good job (or not); let's work together on this issue, for the good of our Borough and local shops and businesses.

Due to the public backlash late last year, Labour Councillors hesitated over the plans they had previously supported.

And, when it came to a vote on whether to 'pause' the charges, pending a review of their likely impact, this is how the parties voted:

  • Labour: voted FOR a pause on the introduction of the charges
  • Local Conservatives: voted FOR a pause on the charges, ahead of scrapping the plan
  • Liberal Democrats: voted FOR a  pause on the charges, ahead of scrapping the plan
  • Green Party: voted AGAINST the pause and want more parking charges
  • Reform UK Councillors: didn't turn up to the meeting

We expect the next vote, after the 'review' has been published, to be taken next month. If that's the case, then we have maybe a couple of weeks at most to persuade ALL the political groups to scrap the charges, once and for all.
