Like most of the citizens of Moreton and Saughall Massie we listened with sadness and respect to the news that HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh recently passed away.
Much has been acknowledged about the great contribution Prince Philip has made to the UK and Commonwealth, in times of war and peace. He is particularly remembered as Founder and Patron of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Max Booth, who is our candidate to succeed the late Chris Blakeley, is a Bronze, Silver and Gold achiever. Max is currently awaiting an invitation to Buckingham Palace to be presented with his Gold Award. Sadly, Max won't get an opportunity to thank the Duke for his support of young people.
Max said: "Throughout much of my life I have benefitted from participation in the D of E scheme.
"I thoroughly recommend it to every young person. It encourages young people to develop their personal capabilities to better contribute to their communities, and to build the skills, confidence and resilience to make the most out of life.
"I am grateful for the Duke's immense personal encouragement of young people like me, and I extend my condolences to the Queen and all her family'."
