Wirral’s licensees and residents are being urged to help improve the licensing system, following a report by the national Licensing Taskforce.
The current licensing system, under the Licensing Act 2003 and supported by statutory guidance, regulates activities such as the sale of alcohol, provision of entertainment and late-night refreshments.
Councillor Cherry Povall, Chair of Wirral’s Regulatory and General Purposes Committee, said: “The Licensing Act is now more than 20 years old and a review as to how it is working is overdue.
“We know the public and licensees can find the whole system of alcohol regulation both baffling and time consuming, and with little discretion about how we apply those regulations locally.
“I hope licensed businesses and members of the public will use this national consultation as an opportunity to try and improve the system, especially for pubs, restaurants and nightclubs.”
The consultation is open until 6 November 2025.
