Keep Warm and Well

Using some of the £1.2 million Covid Winter Grant given to Wirral Council, it’s been announced that Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service will be providing visits to vulnerable and older residents to help them keep ‘warm and well’ in the coming weeks.

The campaign will see £37,000 used to provide portable radiators, as well as ‘Winter Warmth’ packs including scarves, gloves, socks and blankets.

Councillor Lesley Rennie (Conservative, Wallasey Ward) said: “Wirral Council has received more than £170 million extra from the Government for the effects of the pandemic, but we know there are still some people, especially isolated, lonely and vulnerable residents who are at risk of being hardest hit.

“The Fire Service have a proven track record in helping those most at risk at this time of year, such as the popular free home safety checks, and these extra visits could be a lifeline for some of our residents.”

The visits, by Fire Officers, will also encourage elderly residents to take up further support from local voluntary groups and will link with Age UK Wirral’s Big Community Check-in campaign.

This service can be accessed via 0800 731 5958 and residents can request a home fire safety check online
