There has been a big response this month to our latest survey. More than 4,300 people in Upton and Overchurch received a letter from the Leader of Wirral's Conservative Councillors asking for their views.
Councillor Jeff Green said: "It is always fascinating to read the views of residents, especially those who say they have never previously been asked by their councillors or MP.
"It is clear from those who responded that many people in Upton and Overchurch have been affected by Labour's removal of Winter Fuel Payments for more than 2,600 older residents in this community. 53% of people who replied said they or an older relative had been hit."
We asked; you said...
- The closure of Upton Post Office: 43% of those who took part said they had been affected by the closure of the Post Office on Ford Road.
- 35,000 more houses in Wirral: just 11% agreed with the Government's demand to more than double housebuilding in the Borough. Concerns related to the extra pressure on public services and worries as to who the new houses are for.
- Impact of more parking charges: most people who replied were critical of Labour's decision, with fears over the effect more charges will have on local shops and deterring tourism in coastal areas.
- Fender Lane cycle route: a massive 87% want it gone. We have been told it will be on the agenda for the July meeting of the Council's Environment Committee. Several residents living around Moreton Road were shocked to learn about plans for a cycle lane on that road.
- Should there be a national inquiry into the rape/grooming gangs? A staggering 96% of people who replied gave a very definite YES to this one. You can sign our petition on this as we work to get the Government to u-turn on their refusal to act on this issue.
Cllr. Green added: "Thank you to everyone who has replied, so far. Regardless of which party people have supported in previous elections, it's clear the Town Hall needs to do more, and to listen to what residents are saying."
