After multiple requests over many years, a pedestrian-controlled crossing could finally be on the way for Bayswater Road in Wallasey.
Currently, the road has several, often small 'pedestrian refuges' but no pedestrian-controlled crossing.
According to the Department for Transport, more than 20,000 vehicles a day use the road, most coming off the M53 and North Wallasey Approach Road.
It is the growing volume, and speed, of traffic which has led to the latest calls for action.
Late last year, Councillor Ian Lewis again raised concerns about the road and, in our latest newsletter, highlighted we were hoping it would be included in the highway improvements schemes for 2026/27.
The proposed scheme consists of upgrading the existing uncontrolled crossing to a signalised Toucan crossing to assist pedestrian and cyclists.
This is NOT part of the work on the 'Core Active Travel Network' of 28 more cycle lanes - the crossing is on the long-established 'Cycle Route 56' (including Cross Lane, Greenleas Road, Green Lane, Kings Parade)
