Action on local issues:
- Green Belt: having previously defeated Labour's plans to build on our Green Belt, Colin, Gary and Vida voted for the Council's long-delayed Local Plan which directs development to the run down areas instead.
- Lingham Park: using money paid to the council by a developer, we are working with the inspirational Moreton FC and Coastal Point Collective to make sure it is used to benefit the park.
- Town Meadow Station: we wrote to 3,400 people living nearby to ask if they supported the long-considered plans -and the vast majority do. We are now seeking a meeting with the City Region, which took over from Merseytravel who bought the land for the proposed station some 25 years ago.
- Arrowe Brook: we asked for action by the Environment Agency, following concerns that the brook was again getting clogged with weeds and undergrowth.
- Saughall Massie Conservation Area: Councillor Vida Wilson, as our nominated member of the conservation society, has kept in touch with residents of this beautiful village and worked with them on issues to maintain and protect it.
- EV charging: ahead of the roll out of more charging points, Councillor Colin Baldwin visited Green Energy Charging Station at Tarran Way South
- Pasture Marsh: we asked the Council to withdraw its land from the proposed sale - this important local wildlife habitat is also a vital part of the flood plain. The Town Hall carried on with its plans.
- Cycle lanes: we worked to expose the fallacy of the schemes - including the negligible use of existing lanes at Fender Lane; the rising costs and the opposition of most residents and businesses. Labour and the Greens voted for cycle lanes on the full length of Hoylake Road, Upton Road, Pasture Road, Moreton Road and even Moreton Cross.
Action in our community:
- 150 local issues raised by Colin, Gary and Vida, requesting action by the Council, including pot holes, dodgy pavements, trees and streetlights needing repair.
- Three newsletters to 11,600 residents paid for by donations, not the taxpayer
- Surveys to 4,723 residents
- £3,000 being used to local community groups from our 'Wirral Together' fund
- Regular updates on our local Facebook page
- 4,307 followers
- 2,051 likes; 725 comments and 333 shares
- Email update for residents reintroduced
- We have met regularly with Merseyside Police, usually at 'drop ins' outside Heron Foods
- Doorstep surveys each week
Action in the Town Hall:
In January, Councillor Gary Bennett, working with bereaved parents, secured an apology from the Council for the burial of at least 1,287 stillborn babies in unmarked graves.
In March, we demanded Labour's decision to downgrade dementia in the NHS be reversed.
In May, we revealed how the Government's campaign on Pension Credit had flopped, following Labour's decision to scrap Winter Fuel Payments, affecting 2,942 pensioners in Moreton and Saughall Massie.
In August, we were privileged to carry out the formal opening of 'Blakeley Way', off Douglas Drive, named in memory of our much-missed colleague, Chris Blakeley.
In September, we secured all-party support to scrap plans to close more libraries. We are pushing for the promised improvements at Moreton Library, including a bigger, better children's area.
In November, the 'review' of regeneration projects was finally published. It revealed many of the problems started before 2022. We had to use the Freedom of Information Act to learn this review would cost up to £95,000
In December, we again asked for plans for more parking charges to be dropped. Labour confirmed their 'anti business' agenda by refusing to budge on charges for Moreton, while scrapping charges for Birkenhead during December.
