Your vote matters
- At the last council elections in Wallasey Ward, the Greens came 7th with just 6% of the vote
- At the last council elections in Moreton and Saughall Massie, the Greens came 7th with just 8% of the vote.
While they have won seats in Birkenhead, the Greens are too far behind in Wallasey and Moreton and can’t win here.
Council Tax: Greens call for more debt
In March, councillors met to set the legally-required budget. At that meeting, it was reported that Wirral Council now has debts of almost £580 million.
The Green Party Councillors sought, unsuccessfully, for the Council to borrow even more - £6 million – but with no clear plan to repay it.
Greens back plans for cycle lanes
The failed Fender cycle lanes will have a further £200,000 spent on them, following a vote by councillors. The vote followed the ‘review’ of the scheme (which cost a further £79,000).
As well as supporting this, Wirral’s Green Councillors have also voted for more cycle lanes including:
- In Wallasey: Seaview Road, Grove Road, Warren Drive, Wallasey Village and Bayswater Road.
- In Moreton: Hoylake Road, Pasture Road, Upton Road and Moreton Cross
No clear plan for paying for this has yet been produced.
Parking charges - another Green 'cause'..
Following our campaign in November, along with opposition from small businesses, Labour had a last-minute rethink on parking charges. They agreed to ‘pause’ the plan, ahead of a full review.
Sadly, the Greens didn’t agree and voted to carry on with parking charges. Fortunately, they were outvoted.
