The UK has around 25,000 chargepoints currently and, while there is still uncertainty, forecasts suggest more than ten times this amount will be needed by 2030.
While some parts of this new sector are developing relatively well – including charging at locations like shopping centres, workplaces and people’s private parking (garages and driveways) – other parts are facing problems which will hinder roll-out.
In particular, the choice and availability of chargepoints at motorway service stations is limited and the roll-out of on-street charging by local councils such as Wirral is too slow.
The Government is investing extra cash to support the roll out of electric vehicle charging and we'd like to hear your views. Wirral Council is about to trial having charging points as part of street lighting columns in areas where people cannot park on private driveways. Would you like us to put your road forward for consideration in this trial?
