The issue:
- A company called Peak Cluster wants to build a pipeline to remove Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from cement and ceramics works in Staffordshire and Derbyshire to the Irish Sea as a 'Carbon Capture and Storage' scheme.
- The proposed route runs through Wirral and will include a large 'above ground installation' on a site between Moreton and Meols.
- The decision on this is not expected until 2027 and will be made by the national Planning Inspectorate and the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband MP.
Where we stand:
- Local Conservatives do not support the proposal due to the destruction of large tracts of the environment, including Green Belt and green space and the need for a large 'above ground installation' between Moreton and Meols.
- The rush to 'Net Zero' by the Government threatens to destroy some UK industry while chasing an arbitrary target to achieve ‘net zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
What you can do:
- The Planning Inspectorate will be consulting on this, but not yet.
- In the meantime, Peak Cluster are required to hold their own consultation. Their first attempt was woeful. They've now said another will start at the end of March.
- We would also like to hear your views on the proposals - fill in the survey below.
- If you live in the area nearest to the proposed route and AGI - in Saughall Massie and Moreton, look out for the letter and survey being sent to 3,000 homes by our councillors.
