Doing more for cancer patients

Saturday, 8 October, 2011

Cancer patients in Wallasey and Moreton are among those now benefitting from the new £200 million Cancer Drugs Fund set up by the Coalition.  The money is used to buy drugs and treatment that was unavailable to patients until now and follows the news that Clatterbridge Oncology Centre is now offering the first new drugs to treat skin cancer for more than 30 years.

Leah Fraser, who previously worked at the Roy Castle Foundation for Lung Cancer, said: "This is great news but the work, day in, day out, to find new treatments is being funded by the extra money raised by our cancer charities.  By working with the charities, our NHS is leading the world in treatment."

Leah is a big supporter of the North West Cancer Research Fund and the MacMillan Nurses.  Last month, Leah and Councillor Lesley Rennie were among the supporters at the 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' at St Hilary's Church in Wallasey Village.
